Tana River Sugar Company signed a lease and commercial agreement with the National Irrigation Authority for 50,000 acres within the Bura Irrigation Scheme, enabling large-scale sugarcane production. The signing, supported by the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, followed a successful trial phase of 700 acres then employing around 200 local workers. As TRSC expands, it will create further jobs and establish milling and value-addition infrastructure in Bura.

On Tuesday, 28th April 2026, Tana River Sugar Company joined employees, community members and partners at the Bura farm to mark World Day for Safety and Health at Work, the ILO’s annual global observance held each 28th April to champion safe, healthy and decent work.

The theme, “Let’s ensure a healthy psychosocial working environment”, placed the focus on mental wellbeing, respect and the human side of safety. The day brought together nearly 300 people, including staff, casual workers and members of the Community Committee, alongside senior government and partner representatives. Guests included the Deputy County Commissioner, the County Director of Environment, representatives of the area MP and MCA, NSSF, the NIA Government Liaison, and the Bura County Hospital health team, with a clinical psychologist on hand.

Proceedings featured keynote remarks, tree planting and a cake cutting to close, a fitting reminder that a healthy mind, a safe workplace and a strong team are what keep TRSC and the wider Bura community moving forward.

On 28th May 2026, Tana River Sugar Company marked World Menstrual Hygiene Day with female team members at the Farm, joining a global moment dedicated to awareness, dignity and inclusivity around menstrual health.

The day featured a talk on menstrual health, hygiene and wellness, and sanitary towels were distributed to the 130 women on the team. The conversations were open, honest and full of warmth, and the women broke into song to share their appreciation, closing the day on a joyful note.
